Chelsea given Alejandro Garnacho transfer update as Man Utd make major decision

Chelsea could reportedly sign Alejandro Garnacho this summer for a fee far lower than the asking price rivals Manchester United first set out to receive.

With the next stage of the Blues' recruitment drive firmly focused on securing new wide attacking talent for Maresca's plans, multiple names have been put into the hat to complete transfers to Stamford Bridge.

One is Jamie Gittens, who has agreed a long-term contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit for his move from Borussia Dortmund. Talks remain ongoing whilst Chelsea and the German side are both in the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup with optimism over an agreement being reached.

A £42m offer had been rejected before the tournament started though this has done little to slow things down.

And another winger with the possibility of signing for Chelsea this summer is Garnacho, with football.london reporting the club's ongoing interest, but no talks have taken place yet.

The 20-year-old had been tipped for the move back in January, though remained at Old Trafford. Since, his relationship with manager Ruben Amorim appears to have truly fractured and all signs point to him finding a new club in time for 2025/26.

Chelsea have already lost Jadon Sancho this summer, sending him back to United by way of a £5m fee at the end of his loan once it became clear personal terms would not be possible over a permanent switch. Meanwhile, Mykhailo Mudryk has discovered his FA charge for doping offences, therefore faces a ban of up to four years.

How this impacts plans remains to be seen as the Blues could end up targeting Gittens and another left-sided winger in the same window.

And if that is to be Garnacho, The Mirror has claimed that Man United may have forced to knock a massive £20m off the Argentine's asking price.

Old Trafford chiefs want £60m, though there is said to be an acceptance that the public fall-out with Amorim coupled with rivals knowing the club's hierarchy want rid of him, means that they will likely not get what they are holding out for.

Therefore a more 'realistic' amount would be £40m for a player who has scored 16 and assisted 10 in 93 Premier League apperances.

That is less than what the club are going to end up paying for Gittens and matches The Daily Mail's description of Chelsea seeking out players for a good value.

In their report, they say the club's interest is unlikely to waiver in the face of disapproval from certain sections of supporters on social media.

Instead what would turn Chelsea away from a deal is the player's character, with his history at Man United something to be discussed at length.
