Due to this, the difficulties of the candidates waiting for admission to medical school have increased. Let us know why WBMCC has postponed the counseling process before the NEET UG 2025 Round 1 result. How many candidates had registered for the first round of counseling?
Counseling postponed due to OBC reservation.
Due to a case going on in the West Bengal High Court on OBC reservation, WBMCC has postponed the NEET UG 2025 counseling process. However, WBMCC has taken this decision suddenly. Earlier, the High Court had given instructions to streamline the counseling process. Under which the court had directed WBMCC to publish a new merit list by August 22, 2025.
Following this process, WBMCC released the revised merit list on August 16, and as per the schedule, the result of the first round of counseling was to be declared on August 20 at 4 pm, on the basis of which the successful candidates had to report to the colleges from August 21 to 23. Now the counseling process has been postponed. In such a situation, the difficulties of the candidates have increased.
Impact on 11,178 candidates
11,178 candidates have been directly affected by the postponement of NEET UG 2025 counseling by WBMCC. Actually, admission is given to 85 percent of the seats under the state quota. For admission in these seats, WBMCC had released the revised merit list of candidates on August 16, which had the names of 11,178 candidates. Now the difficulties of these candidates have increased due to the postponement of the counseling process.
Criticism by Union Minister of State for Education
WBMCC has decided to suddenly postpone the NEET UG 2025 counseling process. This decision has been criticized by Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar. He has posted on the social media site X and called it a decision sponsored by the state government. He said that this decision has pushed the future of the medical students of the state into darkness. He said that this could be a way to give special benefits to a particular class in the name of reservation, which he termed as unfair.
