Following the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, the Indian Embassy in Iran on Tuesday said that it is gradually winding up the evacuation exercise initiated during the military conflict in Iran.
The statement added that the Embassy has closed the contact desk that was opened to register new names for evacuation. "At the same time, Govt of India is keeping a careful eye on the evolving situation, & will reassess its strategy in case there is again a threat to the security of Indian nationals in Iran."
Further, Indians who were in other parts of Iran, but were planning to travel to Mashhad for evacuation, have been advised to remain where they are, and continue to monitor the news, as well as any updated advice issued by the Embassy.
The Embassy also asked those Indians who had already travelled to Mashhad in the last few days, and are staying in one of the hotels arranged by the Embassy, to shift to Sadr hotel on Tuesday, as the Embassy will be releasing the rooms in other hotels. The Embassy will retain the rooms in Sadr hotel for 2 more nights (until checkout time on 26 June).
A total of 3,170 Indian citizens were evacuated from Iran and Israel, including 1,100 on Tuesday. It brought back 594 Indians from Israel, using C-17 heavy-lift aircraft of the Indian Air Force to fly out over 400 people after they were moved out of Israel to Jordan and Egypt by land transit points.
Also, 161 Indians were brought back in a chartered flight from Amman after they moved to the Jordanian capital from Israel by road.
A total of 573 Indians, three Sri Lankan and two Nepalese nationals were evacuated from Iran in two chartered flights on Tuesday, according to details shared by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
With the fresh batches of evacuees from Iran, India has brought back 2,576 Indians from the Persian Gulf nation..
