'No crash diets or crazy workouts': Sonam Kapoor's 35-kg weight loss and the simple nutrition plan behind it

Send Push
When Sonam Kapoor made her Bollywood debut with Saawariya in 2007, she already seemed destined to be a style icon. But behind the camera flashes was a determined young woman battling multiple health issues. In an older interview, the actor revealed she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and had symptoms of insulin resistance and borderline diabetes by age 20.

As the cameras loomed closer, Sonam knew she needed to transform her lifestyle—not just for the screen, but for her health. According to a report from NDTV, at the time, she was close to 90 kg. She lost almost 35 kg with the support of her mother, Sunita Kapoor, Sonam began a holistic wellness journey, cutting out teenage temptations like chocolate, ice cream, fried food, and sweets.

Just Real Food and Movement
Sonam's transformation wasn’t guided by crash diets. Instead, she focused on intuitive eating, eliminating junk food, and switching to a vegetarian lifestyle. Her meals were spaced at two-hour intervals, promoting better metabolism and digestion. She also immersed herself in consistent physical activity—power yoga, cardio sessions, and swimming became integral parts of her routine.

Slow and Steady Wins Again
In 2022, Sonam Kapoor welcomed her son, Vayu. Like many new mothers, she experienced postpartum weight gain she shared in an interview with Vogue India. But once again, she chose balance over burnout. “Slowly, steadily, without any crash diets and crazy workouts,” she was able to lose weight. “It has taken me 16 months to feel like myself again,” she wrote in a heartfelt Instagram caption, “Still very, very grateful for my body and how incredible it has been. Being a woman is a wondrous thing.”

What’s On Sonam Kapoor’s Plate Today?
In a detailed Instagram post captioned “What I Eat In A Day,” Sonam broke down her daily routine—free from gimmicks, and grounded in nourishment.

She begins her mornings at 6 AM with warm lemon water to aid digestion, followed by collagen chocolate coffee with oat milk and a handful of Brazil nuts and almonds. Breakfast, eaten at 9:45 AM, consists of eggs and toast. Lunch features whole grains and protein—like chicken arrabbiata pasta. Dinner is usually light and served early—around 5:15 PM—with her go-to being chicken on toast, sometimes accompanied by soup. Hydration, too, plays a big role—Sonam ensures she drinks at least 3 to 4 litres of water every day.

“Thanks @radhkarle @radhikasbalancedbody for always making my nutrition plan healthy and balanced so my metabolism never takes a hit,” she wrote, crediting her team for supporting her wellness journey.
