Shodashopchar Puja Vidhi
Worship is done in 16 steps with the Shodashopachar method. In this, padya, arghya, aamchan, bath, clothes, undergarments, ornaments, fragrance, flowers, incense, lamp, offering, betel leaf, hymns, tarpan, and namaskar are done. Puja should never be done standing, and neither should one do puja sitting on the bare floor. Before doing puja, spread a mat on the floor and do puja sitting on the mat.

Milk, curd, Panchamrit, etc., should not be poured in a copper vessel, because they become like liquor.
Before worshiping, do achamana three times. This pleases the Tridev, i.e., Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.
Touching the right ear is also considered equivalent to achamana.
Do not offer water to the deities with the front part of Kush.
Deities should never be applied sandalwood with the thumb. Never pick sandalwood directly from the tree and apply it. Always apply it by placing it on a small bowl or the left palm.
Always do Puja facing East, North, or Northeast.
One should not do Puja with the head covered. Worship without covering the head does not yield results. Both men and women should sit with their heads covered during Puja.

Sit on a clean seat before Puja. Use a red or yellow seat for Puja.
Before starting Puja, meditate on Lord Ganesha, Guru, and your Ishta.
After Puja, put two drops of water under the seat and apply it on the forehead and then get up.
