Benjamin Sesko has been tipped to struggle at Manchester United with Louis Saha calling out his former club for not getting a creative midfielder through the door. Ruben Amorim spent more than £200million on reinforcing his frontline with Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha all arriving.
Sesko himself cost £74m, arrives with a huge reputation and has been tasked with leading the line at Old Trafford. The young Slovenian has been named on the bench for the three Premier League games so far, failing to score in any of his cameos, and Saha is fearful that he may struggle if he does not have the creativity behind him.
United under Amorim play without a playmaker, instead having two central midfielders and two forwards to aid the No 9. Saha insists it is vital that Mbeumo and Cunha hit the ground running with Sesko needing that supply.
“I think he’s capable if the manager managed to get that link between midfield and striker," said Saha. "Unfortunately we didn’t get the midfielder we wanted. So we’re still very weak in that department. And this is why I think Sesko will struggle maybe a little bit until we get that sorted.
“He’s got the quality because he’s tall, he’s going to score goals in the air, and he’s very technical as well. All his movement is right up there, so I’m very confident he’s going to get chances and he’s going to score.

"But to get us where we want, I don’t think that’s going to be on him. Those two playmakers, (Matheus) Cunha and (Bryan) Mbeumo, will have to kick on very soon, (otherwise) you will see Sesko struggling as well.”
United had struggled in attack in their opening games. In their first two outings they only scored courtesy of an own goal before they hit three past Burnley with Mbeumo getting his first goal in his new colours.
Saha has maintained that United have continued their worrying trend of relying on young, inexperienced strikers to lead their line. The struggles experience by Rasmus Hojlund are well documented. The Dane couldn't deliver on his price tag and has been loaned out after two years.
The Frenchman now fears that the club have simply repeated the trick by signing Sesko who, despite being tipped for big things, is still only 22.
He added, speaking to the Athletic:: “The problems identified over the last three or four years (at United) is having the responsibility as a number nine or as a forward when you’re young. You’re still learning, you’re making mistakes. You don’t how to connect with the players as much as maybe Bruno Fernandes, as much as (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic before, or players like Andy Cole.
“There (was a) combination at Man United to have a young player with a lot of talents, who’s going to disrupt, who’s going to actually bring in unpredictability, but at the same time, you have experience where it’s very valuable and you’re going to actually pass on the information.
"This is not the case in the last three or four years. So it’s been a really big mistake and I think they’ve done it again.”
