Sharon Stone has taken to Instagram to share the sad news that her beloved mother, Dorothy Stone, has died at the age of 92.
While she didn’t confirm the exact date of Dorothy’s death, Sharon marked the moment with a heartfelt tribute and a candid photo of her and her late mother smiling together on a balcony in the throwback moment.
In her brief but emotional caption, the 67-year-old actress wrote: “My hilarious, complex mother died. A product of the last depression, let's NOT do this again. Let's protect and care.”

The heartfelt post clearly struck a chord with fans who flooded her comments with love and support. Messages included: “She gave birth to an inspiring woman! Rest in peace,” and “So sorry Sharon. Sending love to you and your family.”
Another fan shared: "So very sorry to hear this news. Your mother looked like such a wonderful and vibrant woman. She clearly did an amazing job raising an incredible woman such as you. May she rest in peace."
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Sharon was one of four children. Sharon previously revealed that her early relationship with Dorothy was rocky, particularly after the actress left home to attend college at just 15-years-old.
However, as the years passed, Sharon revealed that she and her mother grew closer, building a strong bond rooted in newfound understanding and a deep affection which lasted until her mother's recent death.
Dorothy had faced several serious health challenges in recent years, including a stroke and a very bad fall which left her in declining health. Sharon often posted updates about her mother’s condition on social media, sharing intimate moments that reflected Dorothy’s charm and humour.

In one video posted on Valentine’s Day this year, a bruised but smiling Dorothy sent a sweet message from her hospital bed. Sharon captioned the clip with admiration: “THIS is grit, this is legacy, this is character; this is how you get up after you fall at 92. CHAMPION MOMMY.”
Sharon has spoken publicly about their evolving relationship with her now late mother, most notably in her memoir The Beauty of Living Twice.
In a 2021 interview on Canadian radio show Q, she recounted a moment when she confronted her mother about their difficult past. At the time, she said: “You never let me lean on you,” she said. And Dorothy’s reply was unapologetic. She said: “That’s right. I taught you to stand on your own two God damn feet.”

Sharon’s friends, who were present at the time of her mother's response, were stunned by her bluntness and honesty.
However, as she grew older, Sharon said that she came to appreciate her mother’s strength and saw that tough love for what it was - a form of protection.
“She gave me the most loving, the most concerned thing a mother can give another woman,” she explained. “I didn’t understand it when I was young, but at 15, in college, and later modelling in New York and Milan, it became a gift.”
