The investigation into the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has revealed new details about the movements of the accused, 41-year-old Rajesh Khimji, a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat.
Rajesh’s Stay at Gujarati BhawanA team from TV9 Bharatvarsh traced Rajesh’s stay to the Gujarati Samaj Bhawan in Civil Lines, located less than 500 meters from the Chief Minister’s Jan Seva Sadan, where the attack occurred.
According to the guest register, Rajesh checked in at 2:52 pm. However, staff members said he had arrived earlier, around 1 to 1:30 pm, obtained an entry pass at the gate, and spent considerable time sitting at the reception before finally recording his details.
Rajesh spent the night in the D5 dormitory on the second floor of the Bhawan. He checked out at 7:25 am on Wednesday and walked towards Jan Seva Sadan, where CM Rekha Gupta was scheduled to conduct a public hearing.
The Attack on CM Rekha GuptaDuring the hearing, Rajesh attacked the Chief Minister. Witnesses say he threw an object resembling a stone and then pulled at her hand, causing her head to hit the table. Security personnel overpowered him immediately.
Rajesh has since been arrested by police, and investigations are underway to determine his motive.
Security Tightened After IncidentFollowing the attack, security around the Chief Minister has been significantly strengthened:
-
CRPF commandos have been deployed at Jan Seva Sadan.
-
The system of direct public access during hearings has been scrapped. Now, complaints will undergo verification before reaching the CM.
The shocking incident has raised questions about the security arrangements for public meetings at the Chief Minister’s residence, especially since the accused had stayed just 500 meters away the previous night before executing the assault.
