Scoring a double century in any format of cricket is a rare and prestigious milestone. But achieving it in both Tests and ODIs places a player in an elite club. With his recent innings of 269 against England in the second Test at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill has joined this exclusive group. Interestingly, four out of the five players on this list are from India.

Here’s a look at the five cricketers who have achieved double centuries in both formats:

  • Sachin Tendulkar (India)
Sachin Tendulkar was the first player in the world to score a double century in One Day Internationals. He achieved this landmark in 2010 against South Africa, scoring an unbeaten 200. In Test cricket, he has six double centuries to his name, with his highest being 248 not out against Bangladesh.

  • Virender Sehwag (India)
Known for his aggressive batting style, Sehwag scored 219 in an ODI against the West Indies in 2011. In Tests, he has two triple centuries — 309 against Pakistan and 319 against South Africa — along with several double tons, showcasing his dominance in both formats.

  • Rohit Sharma (India)
Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score in ODIs — 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014. He is the only player to score three double centuries in ODIs. He also has a double century in Tests, scoring 212 against South Africa in 2019.

  • Chris Gayle (West Indies)
The only non-Indian on the list, Chris Gayle scored 215 against Zimbabwe during the 2015 World Cup. In Tests, Gayle has two triple centuries — 317 against South Africa and 333 against Sri Lanka — and is known for his explosive style in both formats.

  • Shubman Gill (India)
The youngest member of this club, Shubman Gill scored 208 against New Zealand in 2023, becoming the youngest to do so in ODIs. In 2025, he smashed 269 runs in the Edgbaston Test against England, becoming the first Asian to score a double century in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia).
