If you own a Kindle or an Echo smart speaker, it might look outdated later this week. Amazon has confirmed that it's holding a major launch event in New York, and it seems a swathe of new products could be the highlight. Although the retail giant hasn't revealed exactly what's coming soon, it has sent out invites to media - including Express.co.uk - that offers some big clues about the upcoming announcements.
A montage on the invite shows what appears to be a new Echo speaker, a colour Kindle, and a Fire TV. It doesn't take much detective work to see that these are almost certainly some of the new products we will see this week.
There are some other reasons why this launch makes sense.
Amazon hasn't released any new Echos in a while, so a new range of speakers would not be a surprise. Amazon's Fire TVs remain hugely popular, so some extra screens would surely go down well, and it's thought Amazon might bring a colour screen to its premium Scribe device.
This top-end Kindle lets users scribble on the display and make notes using the supplied pen. It currently only comes with a standard e-ink screen, but that could be about to change with a colour panel possibly on its way.

Full details will be revealed on Tuesday, September 30, so there's not long left to wait.
Along with devices. Amazon might use the event to reveal when the smart Alexa+ assistant will arrive in areas such as the UK.
For those not in the know, Alexa+ is far more advanced. This service supercharges Amazon's personal assistant, making her feel more like a real person rather than a bot. The idea is that you'll have full-blown conversations with her rather than simply asking a basic command.
Alexa+ began rolling out in the US earlier this year at a cost of $19.99 - it's free for those with a Prime accont.
The event in NYC on September 30 starts at 10am Eastern, which is 3pm UK time. It'll be held by Amazon SVP Panos Panay, the executive who recently defected to Amazon after years heading up Microsoft's Surface hardware division.
Amazon isn't streaming this week's launch event so you can't watch online, but Express.co.uk will have all the latest news so watch this space.
