Caitlin Clark says 'she hates me' and sparks social media frenzy

Caitlin Clark's apparent confession has set social media alight after the Indiana Fever guard seemed to concede that one of her biggest rivals despises her. On Friday, Clark was compelled to sit out her 15th regular-season match of the 2025 campaign whilst nursing a right groin injury. She was still able to make her mark from the sidelines, though, as the Fever sailed to an 88-78 victory over the Dallas Wings.

Whilst positioned on the bench, Clark was seen having several exchanges with teammate Sophie Cunningham. In reaction to something the latter mentioned whilst shielding her mouth with a towel, the former appeared to respond: "Yup, I know. She hates me."

Flocking to social media, masses of WNBA supporters theorised that Clark might be referring to DiJonai Carrington, who had a notorious confrontation with the Iowa product during last year's playoffs.

"I'll put money on it, this is about DC 100%," one X user posted, with another commenting: "DiJon Mustard was mean-muggin' Clark after a turnover... no problem."

During the Fever's 93-69 defeat to the Connecticut Sun in the 2024 postseason opener, Clark was struck in the eye by Carrington whilst trying to deliver the ball to Aliyah Boston. The 23-year-old immediately collapsed to the court whilst clutching her face, though officials failed to call a foul and permitted play to continue.

Addressing the media with a black eye after the game, Clark refrained from blaming Carrington's eye jab for the Fever's defeat. "Obviously got me pretty good in the eye. I don't think it affected me, honestly," she remarked.

"I felt like I got good shots, they just didn't go down. Obviously a tough time for that to happen.

"It wasn't intentional by any means. You just watched the play, it wasn't intentional. I don't even know why I would intend to hit anybody in the eye. That doesn't even make sense to me."

On the debut episode of the 'Show Me Something' podcast, Cunningham recognised that WNBA players often adopt a more physical defensive approach against Clark. "You have seen players in our league try and toughen up Caitlin. Even when I wasn't on her team. I know the talks that Phoenix had in the locker room," she revealed.

"'No, we're going to show her what the W really is.' I get it to a certain extent. Every rookie coming into the league, that's how you're going to treat them.

"But there's just more for her. Now, being on her team, I'm like: 'What are people doing? ! It's just too much."
