With Christmas just around the corner, you might be thinking about putting up your decorations soon - but how soon is too soon?

Shops and homes across the UK are beginning to display Christmas decorations, prompting debate about whether it's too early to start the festive season.

Brits are divided on when is the right time to deck the halls, with some eager to embrace the Christmas spirit early, while others think it's far too soon.

Locals shared their surprise after an Edinburgh landmark put up its Christmas lights two months early.

The Dome, a famous bar and restaurant on George Street, dates back to 1847, when the building served as the headquarters of the Commercial Bank of Scotland, which later became the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The iconic building has become known for its elaborate displays of Christmas lights - but this year, its outdoor display was set up on October 13.

Staff displayed sparkling wreaths above the doors and windows, with bright white lights wrapped around the building's imposing columns.

One Edinburgh local shared a photo of the display on X (formerly Twitter), describing the timing as "madness" - however many commenters praised the eye-catching display.

Several comments described the timing as "very early," while others agreed, adding "Yes. However, bonny aren't they?"

"The Dome makes such a huge effort that it does take them a while to put up all the decorations. Well done, I cannot wait to see the tree," replied one comment.

Another reply read, "Love it! Never too early," while another described the display as "always a welcome sight."

The iconic building was designed by David Rhine - with the site initially set to be used as a Physicians' Hall, and inside contains many references to the original plans.

It served as the headquarters for the Commercial Bank of Scotland until 1959, when the company changed to the Royal Bank of Scotland and put the landmark up for sale.

Caledonian Heritable Ltd purchased it and opened its doors as a bar and restaurant in 1996.
