Meghan Markle saw Prince Harry as a "stepping stone" for her own gain, it has been claimed. Royal commentator Phil Dampier previously alleged that Prince William was concerned about Meghan's real intentions for joining the Royal Family.
The expert's comments come after a close confidante of the late Queen Elizabeth II claimed that she was also wary of Meghan's intentions in marrying her much-loved grandson.
Referencing comments made by the late Queen's friend, Lady Elizabeth Anson, Mr Dampier told The Sun: "I think, unfortunately, that confirms what I've been saying or thought for the last few years that, sadly, Meghan never really had any intention of staying in the Royal Family.
"[The late Queen] saw as a stepping stone getting married to Harry to new fame and fortune. And I think that's what initially Prince William was concerned about."
Following Mr Dampier's claims, a source hit back via Page Six about Meghan's intentions, they said: "The opinions of Mr. Dampier are just that, opinions. They are completely without merit and not grounded in fact. There is no way Mr. Dampier, nor anyone at the Sun newspaper, could possibly know what the Duchess' intentions were or are, about anything."
Just two years after they tied the knot in Windsor in May 2018, Meghan and Harry stepped down from royal duties - with the pair soon moving to the US with their son Archie. Within the past five years, the couple have also welcomed another child - their daughter Lilibet.
