Elon Musk ’s AI chatbot Grok is soon expected to a new feature. Grok is known for its conversational and real-time information capabilities. Now it appears that the company is planning to expand its functionality. As per a new online leak, Grok may soon get the ability to edit spreadsheets. If the comes into place, then Grok will compete against other AI assistants like Microsoft Copilot and Google Workspace.

A well-known app researcher and reverse engineer Nima Owji made this revelation in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). Owji's track record for uncovering upcoming features in various apps lends credibility to the leak. While specific details on how Grok would interact with spreadsheets remain scarce, the mere prospect indicates a strategic shift towards more practical, data-centric tasks beyond general knowledge and coding assistance.

Presently, Grok’s main strength is to access real-time information from X and its conversational AI. However, the ability to analyze, modify, and generate insights from structured data like spreadsheets would open up vast new use cases for businesses and individuals alike. Imagine asking Grok to "summarize sales data for Q3," "project next quarter's revenue based on current trends," or "identify anomalies in the budget spreadsheet" – all within the AI's interface.

It could intensify the competition in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, especially against Microsoft's Copilot, which is deeply integrated with Excel and other Microsoft 365 applications, and Google's AI features within Google Sheets.
