NEW DELHI: A teen girl's bravery and presence of mind saved her from being kidnapped in Thane by using a geometry compass and then jumping out of the moving rickshaw.
A 16-year-old girl boarded an auto-rickshaw on Wednesday to reach school, where an unknown passenger was already seated. When nearing her school, despite her request to stop, the driver accelerated instead of halting the vehicle, PTI reported.
Understanding the situation, the girl took out a geometry compass and attacked the driver. She pushed the man who was sitting beside her and jumped out of the moving autorickshaw. Subsequently, she successfully reached her school premises.
"The girl had boarded the rickshaw to go to her school on Wednesday. An unidentified man was already present in it. When the vehicle reached close to her school, the girl asked the driver to stop there, but he did not do so and instead moved faster," Police said on Saturday after she registered the case.
The incident took place around noon on July 9 in Bhiwandi. The girl safely made her way to school and later informed her mother, who approached the police.
A case has since been registered at Shanti Nagar police station under sections 137(2) (kidnapping) and 62 (attempt to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the police said.
"A probe into the case is currently underway," the official said.
