Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday emphasised that the interests of the people of India and China are closely tied to mutual cooperation, during his bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation ( SCO ) summit in Tianjin, China.
"An agreement has been reached between our Special Representatives (NSA Ajit Doval; foreign minister Wang Yi) regarding border management. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has been resumed. Direct flights between the two countries are also being resumed. The interests of 2.8 billion people of both countries are linked to our cooperation," PM Modi said.

PM Modi stressed that India remains committed to advancing its relationship with China based on mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity. He also recalled their October 2024 meeting in Kazan, Russia, during the 16th BRICS Summit—their first interaction since the deadly Galwan valley clashes of June 2020.
"Last year in Kazan, we had very fruitful discussions which gave a positive direction to our relations. After the disengagement on the border, an atmosphere of peace and stability has been created," PM Modi stated.
The prime minister also congratulated China on what he described as its "successful" chairmanship of the SCO, and thanked Xi for the invitation.
The Tianjin SCO summit marks PM Modi’s first visit to China since 2018. His visit comes against the backdrop of the United States imposing 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods, announced in two separate tranches of 25 per cent each by US President Donald Trump.
The second tranche, according to Trump and his aides, was in response to India’s alleged role in “funding” Russia’s war in Ukraine. It came into effect on August 27.
