A sandalwood tree grown in the front yard of a house was felled and stolen by thieves during the night near Mavinhalla in Rangasamudra village, close to Kushalnagar.
The tree belonged to M.B. Deviprasad, a resident of the village. Upon discovering the theft, he lodged a complaint with the Forest Department.
Following the complaint, forest officials visited the spot, inspected the area, and conducted a mahazar (on-site investigation). Officials have initiated further action and a search for the culprits.
This incident highlights yet another case of the illegal cutting and smuggling of valuable sandalwood trees, raising concerns over forest resource protection in rural areas.
